For increased safety and productivity, The modern tire shop or vehicle repair shop needs to ensure that wheel lugs are tightened both evenly and to the correct torque level. Even the best current procedure requires twosteps:

1.Snug the lugs with an impact gun using a torque limiting stick.
2.Lower the car to the ground, and then use a torque wrench on each lug.

This is a time consuming, labor intensive process that leaves the Owner, Manager and Customer still not knowing if the job has been done right or done at all...and 1000ft/lbs of "nut busting torque" is not the answer. Most lugs get over-tightened by the impact tool before a torque wrench ever touches them. With Clicker type torque wrenches, techs can seriously over-tighten lugs because they don't stop pulling when the wrench clicks.
Add distractions, tech turn-over, limited training resources and the critical job of tightening lug nuts properly often gets overlooked. This can spell disaster in terms of safety and high rework costs.
